Welcome to my website. I have been recording the sounds of wildlife for 23 years now and would like to share with you some of the joys of this activity. It all begun on a May evening in 1983 when I cycled out to a place on the outer suburbs called Lovers Lane. I had only bought my first portable tape recorder and wanted to finally begin capturing the beautiful sounds of nature. Since that time I have travelled a fair lot and heard many wonderful sounds. Not alone have I recorded birds but I have got the sounds of rivers, streams, thunder, the sea, weather, as well as peoples reminiscences, trains, fireworks etc. Over the years I have kept a fairly detailed diary of events, if I were to type-in and print out all this text it would run to hundreds of pages, something like a phonebook. I have learned so much, not only about wildlife but about a lot of other things along the way. I have seen the technology develop from analogue open reel tape, cassettes, vinyl records and 16mm magnetic film, through to minidisk, dat tapes, cds and now, high definition audio on memory cards. It has been quite a journey. It is such a pity that we can't set out with our present knowledge and experience, as in my case, the best and quietest years were spent making mistakes and just learning where the best recording locations are.
