A group of fourty five visiting French Supermarket Owners while on a four day incentive trip recently to Ireland decided to try out their angling skills. The venue chosen by their tour operator Land & Heritage of Ireland was Annamoe Trout Fisheries fly fishing facilities in Co. Wicklow. The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board staff members Josie Mahon and Des Chew were in attendance to offer their help and advice to members of the group that were trying flyfishing for the first time. The group on arrival had the usual complimentary tea and coffee and then got down to the serious business of trying to land some rainbow trout. Fourteen trout were caught before breaking for a smoked trout salad lunch served in the log cabin. All returned to the lake again with great enthusiasm when informed that there would be prizes sponsored by The Eastern Regional Fisheries Board for those that caught the most fish and the heaviest fish. At four o clock Brian Nally the fishery owner blew the whistle and all returned to the cabin to record their catches. A total of thirty three trout were landed and returned safely. A gentleman with a bag of six trout was the overall winner and the prize for the heaviest trout of four and a half pounds was won by a first time lady angler. The most successful flies used were Vivas, Dawsons Olives, Muddlers and Twinkle Hares Ears. After the prize presentation and customary photos the group entertained members of the fishery staff with a rendition of some traditional French songs and Molly Malone. It was very obvious that the corporate fishing outting had been a great success. Land & Heritage of Ireland incoming tour operators have now added angling as another activity to their client program.
