Location:                                                                                                                           Back
Take the Youghal road from Cork, through the Middleton by-pass and on to Castle martyr. Turn right at the hump back bridge toward Garryvoe. Pass through the village of Lady's bridge and take the second left turn which is sign posted. Carry on down the winding road till you reach a right turn posted for ballinwilling beach drive on till you reach the car park on the left, fish to the right.

Time and tide:
Ballinwilling is a shallow clean beach which fishes best on a coming small tide, though you will catch fish at all states. There is just one thing I forgot to mention and
That is Ballinwilling only fishes at night.

Why the hell am I here:
Ballinwilling is a cracking beach mark with a wide Varity of
Species available to the angler. Codling, whiting and coalies can
Be caught in the winter. While small eyed ray and the odd thorn
Back plus bass, congers flounder and mackerel can be caught in
The late summer months.

Bait and method:
Crab and lug are best for codling and flats with sand eels squid
And razor working for bass and rays. Mackerel will pick up
Doggies and every thing else. A medium cast is all that’s necessary
With a short lob effective for bass and ray. Targeting the ray and bass will mean upgrading your normal beach gear to 20lb line and 4/0 hooks.

Where to fish:
There are two choice marks on the beach, the first is opposite the
Slip next to the rocks on your left. While the most productive is the
Stream at the far right, a good walk but well worth it.

Tips:
Be careful when fishing low water at night on big tides , the low
Water mark can be 1/4 of a mile out and the tide comes in very fast.
This year all night beach party’s have become a feature in the car
Park and on the beach with hundreds of revellers. Best to leave
Them alone and fish some ware else.
