Summary of January 2000 - December 2000 Activities

 

Council Meetings:

There were 3 Council Meetings during the past year from January to December 2000 - January, May, October.

 

Annual Meeting:

The 17th Annual General & Scientific Meeting of the Irish Division was in Drogheda, County Louth in January 2000. There were 29

Scientific presentations and 82 registered delegates.

 

Competition Results:

The annual prize competition was held on Friday 28 January 2000.

ELIDA GIBBS Travel Award:

The in-vitro adhesion of Candida albicans to buccal epithelial cells

from edentulous late onset diabetic patients. ZN Al-Dwairi, WA

COLGATE Postgraduate Award:

Fracture Toughness of Monolithic Specimens of Dental Porcelain.

CREST Undergraduate Award:

1. Amalgam Adhesives - Is their Use Justified? Paul Murtagh, TCD.

  1. The Role of Gingival Crevicular Fluid in Periodontitis and its Variability in Smokers. Aidan Callanan, UCC.
 

Scientific Committee:

This group meets to review and judge entries for the various awards and to process abstracts (see below). The 2000 Committee was Jacinta McLoughlin (President), Chris Irwin, John Clarkson, Francis Burke, Denis O’Mullane.

 

IADR General Session:

The Division was represented at IADR Council in Washington in April 2000 by Dr. J. McLoughlin and Dr. F. Burke.

 

Pan-European Federation (PEF)

The third meeting of a steering committee to establish this group was held in Poland in August and chaired by Professor Michel Goldberg. The Irish Division was represented by W.Coulter and D. MacCarthy. The purpose of this group is to establish a Pan European Federation under the umberella of IADR - similar to the AADR. There would be meetings of PEF in Europe at regular intervals. This will potentially have an impact on the Division’s Annual Meeting, and perhaps also on attendance at the international meetings. The next meeting of the steering committee will be in Belfast in April 2001.

5. Planned Activities for 2001

 

Annual Meeting:

The 18th Annual General & Scientific Meeting of the Irish Division will be in Belfast on 10-12 April 2001.

 

Competitions:

These will be held in Belfast on 11 April 2001 - Crest Undergraduate Award, Colgate Postgraduate Award

& Elida Gibbs Travel Award

 

Scientific Committee:

The Committee for 2000/01:- Francis Burke (President), Chris Irwin, John Clarkson, Denis O’Mullane and Denise MacCarthy.

 

IADR General Session:

The Division will be represented in Tokyo in June 2001 at IADR Council and in the Hatton Award Competition.

 

Pan-European Federation (PEF)

The next meeting of the steering committee will be in Belfast in April 2001. The representatives of the Irish Division will be D. MacCarthy, J. Clarkson, W Coulter.
