FORUM MISLEADS PUBLIC.

Last May, Fluoride Free Water marched to the Dail and delivered a wealth of international scientific studies linking water fluoridation and serious health conditions such as hip fractures, cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, thyroid disorders and neurological damage. Last year we also revealed that there has never been a study into the health effects of nearly forty years of dosing our drinking water with chemical fluoride.
Despite these efforts and the Health Act (fluoridation of water supplies) 1960, which requires by law periodic studies into the health effects, Minister Martin continues to ignore his responsibilities to monitor public health.
In February 2000, the Minister of Health stated in a Primetime programme that, "I am very committed to research, but I wouldn’t want to just engage in a public relations exercise." Following this declaration, Minister Martin undermined this public stance and established his Forum on fluoridation. This committee of professionals is a costly public relations exercise consisting of mainly pro-fluoridation "experts", who have astonishingly been give the remit of "independently" assessing the arguments ‘for’ and ‘against’ water fluoridation. These in-house, hand-picked so called "independent" forums are well known in other issues e.g. BSE crisis and Blood Transfusion scandals. This pro-fluoride forum, like the others, seems more interested in hiding the truth and withholding information from the public than looking at fluoridation.
An example of this occurred at a recent meeting of the Forum on Fluoridation on 5/4/2001. At this meeting, closed to the public, Mr. Kevin Moyles, Head Public Analyst, stated that "…tests done so far by the Regional Analysts’ Laboratory suggest that the hydrofluosilicic acid (fluoridating agent) used is pure…." Fluoride Free Water recently obtained a full chemical analysis of this acid under FOI. This confidential document (see attached analysis), dated 14/2/2001, was forwarded to Mr. Kevin Moyles but did not indicate the acid as "pure". In fact, one quarter of the H2SiF6 (acid) is contaminated, including carcinogens such as arsenic, chromium, nickel and mercury. As Micheal Martin misled the Dail regarding the contents of this toxic cocktail last year, it is no great surprise that members of his "fluoride farce" continue to mislead the public and put all our health at risk.
Fluoride Free Water are marching to the Department of Health to demand that the Minister; (i) stop fluoridation immediately; (ii) carry out health studies as required by the legislation and; (iii) begin an independent public inquiry into this mass-medication which is in breach of a basic human right i.e. the freedom to choose.
