CARNAUN NATIONAL SCHOOL
My Aunty Margaret has lots of ducks. They are free range and when you go near them they will flock around you looking for food. Some are white and some are brown and they have names like Sleepy, Slimy, Sticky and Snuggy.
Last -week when we were visiting her she gave us one for Sunday's dinner. Her husband Marty caught it and very soon it was "a dead duck". While I like to cuddle a nice warm duck in my arms I was afraid to hold the dead one.
Aunty Margaret then plucked it while it was still warm. The whole place was covered with brown and white feathers. Of course they should be in the bucket but when I was running after my cousin I tripped and toppled them all over the yard and then I was in trouble. Then I had to pick them up - not an easy job on a windy day. When she plucks the ducks there is usually an unpleasant smell. She does not mind it but I do.
Anyway we brought it home and hung it up for a few days and Mammy cooked it. Then it smelled lovely. It tasted lovely also. Duck with apple sauce is my favourite Sunday dinner.
