CARNAUN
NATIONAL SCHOOL
"A Week in the Life of an
Irish Child"
My name is David. I am an Irish child. I am eleven years old. I
live in the country about two miles from Athenry and about four miles from
the school. Athenry is in County Galway in the west of Ireland. I have
three brothers named Keith, Colin and Shane. I am the oldest of my brothers.
Our school is a co-ed school. I attend school from Monday to Friday. School
starts at 9:30 and ends at 3:00. My teachers name is Finbarr O’Regan. The
subjects we do are Maths, English, Irish, Geography, History, Science,
Art, P.E. and Music. My favourite subject is English grammar. I
love working outside in the Organic Garden. My Uncle brings me
to school by car. There are about 50 pupils in our school. It is a country
school. We get a 15 min break at 11:00 and a 45 min break at 12:30. We
play lots of games at break such as Dodgeball and Forty-Forty. During the
morning my dad goes to work in a factory in Galway and my mum stays at
home and minds the house. When my dad finishes work he collects me from
school. When I come home I have something to eat and then I do my homework.
When I am finished my homework I watch T.V and go outside to cycle my bike
or play sports. After playing I help out around the house.
This is a typical school day for me. Every morning I have a breakfast
of cereal and orange. My favourite breakfast is coco pops. My favourite
dinner is chicken, curry and rice. A real traditional Irish dinner is Irish
stew or cabbage and bacon.
Every Saturday morning I like to sleep in. Sometimes I like to go to
“Wired” which is an internet cafe in my local town Athenry. There are ten
computers there. My favourite game there is “Counter Strike”.
On Sunday I go to Mass and then we do some grocery shopping. When I get
home I watch TV.
In the evening I get ready for an other week.
