CARNAUN
NATIONAL SCHOOL
"A Week in the Life of an Irish
Child"
My name is Gemma.
I am an Irish child. I live in the countryside in a village called Mountain
North near a town called Athenry in Co. Galway. I live with my family,
my mother, father and my two brothers. I go to a country school called
Carnaun. It is a co-ed schoolboy and girls attend. I go to school from
Monday to Friday. We start school from 9.30 to 3.00 o clock. I go to school
by car. We get 15 mins at first break and at second break we get 45 mins.
My favourite subjects are Maths and English. My teacher’s name is Finbarr.
Sometimes we go out to the next classroom to play the tin whistle. There
are about 50 pupils in this school.
My Dad works in a factory in Galway. My Mom is a housewife.
My dad starts work at 8.00 and comes home at 4.00. My Mom minds a child
called Olivia from 7.00 to 5.00.
In the evenings when I have my homework done I go outside
and go on my bike. I have a nice pink bike. I like to cycle up and down
the driveway on the tar.
Every morning I have a lovely breakfast. I have Cornflakes
with milk. My favourite food is bacon and cabbage. My favourite dinner
is bacon and cabbage. Irish stew and bacon and cabbage are favourite Irish
dishes. My Mother is a really good cook! See
our food week!
We all love Friday evenings because we are free for the
weekend.
On Saturday mornings Mammy and I go into town. We go
to Centra Supermarket. When we come home I get ready for dancing. I go
Irish dancing every Saturday from half 2 to 4o clock. Then when I go home
I get out of my good clothes and put on my old clothes. I go outside and
play for a while or I get to go to my friend Michaela’s house to play with
her.
On Sunday we all go in to Galway and buy nice stuff and
then we go to my Grandmother’s house in Oughterard for a long visit.
This is how I spend my week and weekends.
