Project Activities - 2001/2002

 This is a record from Ernst Glück Aluksne State Gymnasium, Aluskne Latvia 

During the school year 2001/2002 we started the work at the project and took part in the following activities:
•    The translation of the project home page www.eat-online.net and the developing of the project
•    The extending of the project for the theme “Art and food” where we showed the other participants of the project the painting of Latvian painter K?rlis Miesnieks “Everyday bread”.  
•    The extending of the project for the theme “Cookery-book”. The translation of Latvian nation meal recipes in English.
•    The preparing of the materials on Latvian Christmas and Easter traditions, the laying of the table in ancient times and nowadays.
•    The organising of the students’ Christmas exhibition, applied art works and the preparing of them.
•    Interactive co-operation among the students (e-mails, chats).
•    The expanding of the co-operation among the schools from the countries involved – correspondence with the students from Italy, Romania, Finland, Ireland and Greece.
 

School year 2002/2003

In the school year 2002/2003 the school received the financing of European Commission for the implementation of the project and did the following activities:

•    Creative works on what the students eat: poems, drawings etc.
•    Food and superstitious beliefs.
•    Food and colours: free and creative students’ works in an abstract style: batik scarves, textiles, Easter and Christmas cards.
•    The expanding of the project on the theme “ Art and Food” and “Cookery-book”. 
•    E-mails, chats, forums. The exchange of news among co-ordinators. 
•    Students’ art works for European art calendar for the school year 2003/2004.
•    How we obtain food. Food production. 
•    The start of the work at the theme “Bread is like the world”. 
•    Wooden stools, lighting appliances, holders for dishes. Exhibition. 
•    Latvian ornament, its drawing and pictures. 
•    Latvian sayings yesterday and today. 
•    Food prices in the shops of Latvian town. 
•    Food prices in the school café and canteen. 
•    Excursion to V.?irps Ate water mill and Al?ksne bakery. 
•    “From grain till bread” – the works of the girl-students of form 7 in the laystitch technique.
•    Practical involvement of the students in cooking in the training kitchen, the organoleptical analyses of the food quality. 
•    Meeting of the co-ordinators’ project in Cluj_Napoca and Botosani in Romania, Mosta – in Malta, Napoli – in Italy with press-conference and public undertaking on the project experience and results. 

The project aim – to promote formation of civic society 

The project tasks:
•    to promote international co-operation among schools;
•    to introduce new technologies of communication and life long studies;
•    to promote better professional training of teachers;
•    to promote language studies and to form inter-culture understanding. 

The project is concentrated on the student and integrated in the school syllabus. 
The project mirrors the eating traditions in Europe based on nowadays reality and ancient traditions, turns attention to the social meaning of healthy food. It is many-sided co-operation.
