for a Green-Schools Award
This year we applied to An Taisce for
the Green-schools Award
We elected a Green-Schools Committee
We did an Environmental Review for the School
Then we decided on our projects:
-
Create an awareness of the litter in the immediate
school area.
-
Reduce the volume of Waste going to landfill
site by 50% in a year.
Recently we were visited by Sinéad Ní
Mhainín, Environmental Officer from Galway Co. Co. who examined
our projects on behalf of An Taisce
Today - 24.05.2000 - we got our letter:

I
have great pleasure in informing you that your application for the European
Green-Flag has been successful. Congratulations!
An
Taisce's Green-Schools Evaluation Committee in Dublin, which makes the
decision to award the Green-Flag, was extremely impressed with you programme
and had no hesitation in making their decision.
We
are planning a Green-Flag Award Cermony in Dublin and are awaiting details
of abvailable dates from the Minister of Education .......

This year, on our Spring Cleanup, there
was no farm waste to be seen!
Chrissie, Marion amd Kiera show us where
the Carnaun Farmers hold their silage bale wrap until the Farm Relief Service
call to collect it.We helped innitiate this project
by informing the Community and distriburing
leaflets.
