CARNAUN NATIONAL SCHOOL
Milennium Celebration
Mass and Open Day
We decided that the 21th day of December
was an ideal day on which to hold our millennium celebration as this is
the shortest day in the year and at this point the sun is at its farthest
from us. However it is on its way back to us and long ago this was a great
feast day when people rejoiced that from now on the days were getting longer.
It was their 'New Year's Day when they looked forward to springtime and
good times ahead. They gathered on hilltops to greet the morning sun which
was their God. Cnoc-a-tSíodhán (Sheeaun Park) was probably
the local gathering place in our area. It was a religious feast for them
and they were proud of their religion.
Well, today we gathered in Carnaun School
to greet our God in the morning sun. Mass is our way of celebrating our
feast days. Fr. John Fennelly the Chairman of the Board of Management was
the celebrant and we had a great morning.
