Minor 2007

Manager: Mick Myers. Trainer Seamus Weldon. Selector Donie Foley

Fossa travelled to Glenflesk on Sunday morning last to take on the home
side in the East Kerry Division 2 championship. In a hard fought and
entertaining game the home side ran out winners on a final scoreline of
3-13 to 4-4. This was the minor teams final game of the year and the
club would like to thank the players and mentors for the effort they
made all year. They competed excellently throughout the year and and it
is good to see that there are some fine players coming through to Senior
grade.

County League Div 4 - Fri May 4th

The minor side produced a wonderful comeback in their outing against Glenflesk on Friday evening last. Played in Kilcummin, it was Glenflesk who started much brighter and were 3points to the good before Fossa first real surge forward. Fossa were awarded a penalty on 12 minutes after some fine work by Kevin Leane put John Falvey through but he was hauled down in the box. John took the penalty himself but it just flew past the post. John did add the next score from a free but it was Glenflesk who dominated the remainder of the half and added four more points. Half time: Glenflesk 0-7 Fossa 0-1. John Falvey added the opening scores of the second half with two pointed efforts. The teams traded points until it appeared that Eamon Sheehy was fouled in the small rectangle and after a mix up the ball ended up in the back of the net. Fossa now trailed 1-9 to 0-4 and appeared to have a mountain to climb. They replied fast however with an excellent goal by Sean O’ Brien and 2 minutes later Kevin Leane again had the net rattling. Game on! John Falvey added another free which Glenflesk replied to but Fossa had the net hit again 3 minutes from time when Gary Coffey fired home. For the remainder of the game the Fossa backs were excellent with Donal Coffey, Darragh Murphy and Leonard Looney particularly outstanding. Fossa ran out winners on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-10. Team and Scorers: Eamon Sheey, Leonard Looney, Donal Coffey, Darragh Murphy,Fintan McCarthy, Kevin O Sullivan, Francis Moran, Robert Foley, Lawrence Kelly, Donal O Donovon, Sean O Brien(1-0), Shane O’ Neill, John Falvey(0-6), Gary Coffey(1-0), Kevin Leane(1-1), Darragh Enright, Steven Devane

County League Div 4 - Fri April 13th

Fossa 3-07 Knocknagosel 1-22

This game was played in Fossa on Friday April 13th. Fossa started very
poorely and the North Kerry lads kicked some great points and were six
points ahead before Leonard Looney opened Fossas account with a point.
Knock/Brosna added a seventh point followed by a goal and then proceeded to
dominate the game and at half time they lead by 1.13 to 1.2. A great goal
from John Falvey and a point from the same player gave Fossa some
encouragement late in the opening half.
Fossa dominated on the resumption and a point from John Falvey and a Brendan
Falvey goal followed by further points from Donal O Donovan and John Falvey
saw Fossa close the gap to a five point margin. Entering the final quarter
Knock/Brosna broke away to score two points but another John Falvey point
and one from the excellent Kevin Leane left the score at 1.15 to 2.7 with
seven mns remaining. Fossa tired and the visitors landed five further points
before the final whistle with Sean O Brien scoring an excellent third goal
for Fossa.
Fossa lined out without some regulars but the second half performance was
encouraging. Eamon Sheehy was sound in goal but the defence was under
pressure as our opponents dominated mid field for most of the game.   In
attack Kevin Leane and John Falvey played very well, while Fintan McCarthy
performed splendidly.
Fossas next fixture is on Friday night next away to Churchill. Bus leaves
from Fossa pitch at 5.30 p.m.

East Kerry League Div.3,Round 2 April 7th 2007.

Fossa 5-11, Scartaglin 1-10.

This game was played in Scartaglin on Saturday evening last in perfect conditions. Fossa, minus Kevin o Sullivan, made light of his absence and turned in a very commited and effective display. Scart opened the scoring with a point but Donal O'Donovan quickly equalised and a pointed John Falvey free promptly followed by a goal from the same player put Fossa in control which they retained for the remainder of the contest. Gary Coffey and Francis Moran kicked further points before a great goal from Donal O' Donovan increased the Fossa lead and a Sean o Brien point followed by a second John Falvey goal saw Fossa in front at half-time by 3-5 to 1-4. The second-half opened with a Kevin Leane point - Kevin was to add a further 2 points in this half - before a superb goal from Robbie Foley put Fossa into a commanding position and a third goal for John Falvey saw Fossa lead by 5-6 to 1-8 entering the final 10 minutes. Points in the closing stages for John Falvey, Brendan Falvey and Kevin Leane saw Fossa emerge as convincing winners. They play Cordal in the final round of the league and are now in pole position to qualify for the final. On the night, all the Fossa lads played well with Robbie Foley marshalling the defence exellently and Donal O'Donovan and Sean O'Brien doing well around the centre of the field. In attack John Falvey and Kevin Leane impressed most but overall the entire team performed very well and their victory was well deserved. Team E.Sheehy, D.Coffey, L.Kelly, D,Murphy, B.O Brien, R.Foley(1-0), L.Looney, D.Donovan(1-1), S.O' Neill, K.Leane(0-3), S.O Brein(0-1), G.Coffey(0-1), J.Falvey(3-3), F.Moran(0-1), B.Falvey(0-1), D.Enright.

East Kerry League Div 3

Played Sat 2nd March 2007 @ home

In an entertaining and sporting encounter, Fossa minors began their season with an impressive victory over Gneeveguilla on Saturday afternoon last. The game was played in excellent conditions at Fossa. Fossa were the better balanced outfit throughout and first half goals from John Falvey and Gary Coffey as well as some good points from John Falvey(3) and Sean O' Brien saw the home side lead by 2-4 to 1-2 at half time. The second half continued in the same vein as the final scoreline of Fossa 4-8 to Gneeveguilla's 2-4 suggests. Fossa's second half goals came from Gary Coffey and Donal O' Donovon and with points from John Falvey(2), Kevin O' Sullivan and Sean O' Brien completing the scoring. This was a good solid display and all the team played well with Lawrence Kelly , Rob Foley and the very impressive Niall O' Brien standing out in defense. Donal Donovan performed well at midfield and up front John Falvey, Kevin O' Sullivan, Sean O' Brien and two goal hero Gary Goffey were most effective. All the lads played well and this augers well for the remainder of the competition. Team: Kevin Leane, Lawrence Kelly, Shane O' Neill, Donal Coffey, Rob Foley(capt), Niall O' Brien, Donal O' Donovan, Leonard Looney, Gary Coffey, Kevin O' Sullivan, Sean O' Brien, Barry O' Brien, John Falvey, Darragh Murphy, Eamon Sheehy, Brenden Falvey, Michael O' Donghue, Fintan McCarthy.
