U-14 Div. 2 Final
Fossa played Rathmore in the East Kerry Div. 2 Final in the Dr. Crokes pitch last Monday evening. As in the previous round, Fossa went into this game as underdogs, having lost to this same opposition in the co-league. The exchanges in the first half were tough but fair, with both sets of defences being well on top, as a result scores were at a premium. Rathmore opened the scoring with two Tadgh Moore points, Fossa replied with Brian Walsh kicking a fine point from distance. John O' Keeffe got a goal for Rathmore on 20 mins before Brian Walsh replied for Fossa with a screamer from 30 yards right on the stroke of half time. This left them within a point of Rathmore at the break 1-2 to 1-1.
Rathmore upped the pace in the second half and even though Fossa had the aid of the wind they could not get to grips with a physically stronger opposition. Rathmore got a great start with a brilliant goal from Mark Reen and they proceeded to control the game, led by the impressive Pat Cremin at centre back. Fossa tried hard but it just wasn't their evening, they never gave up and their defence were excellent. Daniel Cronins long and accurate kickouts were a feature of the game, Paddy Sheehan and Eanna Grealy both gave top drawer performances and were well assisted by Daniel O' Keeffe, Shane Hennigan, David Osterloh and Daniel Griffen, Brian Walsh ran his legs off at centre field and up front Tadgh O' Shea and Eanna Coffey tried very hard but often found themselves in possesion too far from goal to do any real damage. Rathmore ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-7 to 1-3.
Team Daniel Cronin Capt, Daniel O' Keeffe, Paddy Sheehan, Shane Hennigan, Daniel Griffen, Eanna Grealy, David Osterloh, Brian Walsh, David McCarthy, Mickey O' Shea, Eanna Coffey, Darragh Rice, Tadgh O'Shea, David Palmer, Alan Buckley. Subs Daniel Coffey, Gavin O' Connor.
U-14 East Kerry Championship
Fossa played Kenmare in the semi-final of the East Kerry Championship on Tuesday evening last. Having lost to the same opposition in the co-league earlier on in the year, Fossa went into this game as underdogs but with a point to prove. This game turned out to be a close and tough affair and was probably the best game Fossa have played all year. The first half was even enough with both sides trading points, Tadgh O' Shea lead the line with 4 points, Eanna Coffey scored 1 point and Fergal O' Shea added a great goal to give Fossa a half time lead 1-6 to 0-6. In the second half Fossa defended for all they were worth as Kenmare threw everything into attack, Paddy Sheehan had another brilliant game at fullback where he won everything that came near the small square, Shane Hennigan and Daniel Griffen were excellent in the half back line and with the classy Tadgh O' Shea adding further points along with Eanna Coffey and Darragh Rice, Fossa held on to win on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-9. They will now play Rathmore in the Div 2 final next week.
U-14 East Kerry Championship
Fossa played Gneeveguilla in the East Kerry C'ship last Tuesday evening in Gneeveguilla. This turned out to be a very close game all through, Fossa started well and they quickly raced into the lead with a Fergal O' Shea point and a Tadgh O' Shea goal, however Gneeveguilla struck for a goal of their own. Then Fossa hit a purple patch with Tadgh O' Shea displaying all his potential when he hit over 3 points, Fergal O' Shea kicked 3 points, one coming after some very good build up play by the other forwards.Gneeveguilla scored another goal to stay in touch but further excellent points by Mikey Shea, Alan Buckley and Brian Walsh had Fossa in the lead at half time 1-11 to 2-3.
Gneeveguilla fought hard in the second half and they scored two more goals but Fossa replied with two goals from their dynamic midfielder, David McCarthy. Fossa were guilty of some poor shooting in this half when they could have put the game to bed much earlier and they will have to improve if they are to overcome the challenge of Kenmare in the next round. They ran out winners on a scoreline of 3-14 to 4-7.
U-14 East Kerry League. The U-14 team played Kenmare
in Kenmare last Monday evening in the East Kerry league. This was
always going to be a tough assaingment and so it proved, Fossa played
with the aid of the wind in the first half and they used it to good
effect when they kicked high ball into their full forward line where
David Palmer gave a great display of high fielding. This tactic worked
well, and with the physical presence of Alan Buckley thrown in, they
plundered 3 goals in this half. Kenmare had the aid of the wind in the
second half and the Fossa defence came under a lot of pressure, they
were also struggling in mid field at this stage and the 2 goals that
Kenmare scored were to prove the difference in the end. Fossa battled
hard to the end with points from Tadgh O' Shea and Brian Walsh keeping
them in touch but Kenmare held on to win by 3 points 4-11 to 4-8.
Overall this was a solid team display where with a little bit of luck
they might have got a better result.
Team Daniel Cronin, Daniel Griffen, Paddy Sheehan, Daniel Coffey,
Mikey Shea, David Osterloh, Daniel O' Keeffe, Brian Walsh 0-1, David
McCarthy, Darragh Rice, Eanna Coffey 1-0, Tadgh O' Shea 0-5, Gavin O'
Connor, David Palmer 2-0, Alan Buckley 1-2.
Game 2 - East Kerry League
The U-14 team recorded a comfortable win over Firies in the East Kerry League last week with a 9-11 to 6-3 victory. This was a closer game than the score line suggest with Fossa getting on top in the last ten minutes. Firies must be complemented on the improvements in this team since the U12 competition two years ago.Tadgh O'Shea on his return from injury scored 6-04 and David McCarty followed with 3-03 on a night that both defenses concentrated on attacking!
This was a good result as Fossa were missing some key players due to eductional activies !!!!
Game 1 - East Kerry League
Fossa were hammered by Glenflesk and again showed the intelengence of the east Kerry board on the dividing up of the Teams in East Kerry into the two divisions.
U-14 Co-league Div 4A Semi-final 24th April 2007
Fossa played Skellig Rangers/Valentia in the semi-final of Div 4 co-league on Wednesday evening in Portmagee. Fossa started slowly and went 2pts in arrears, however two excellent points from Tadgh O' Shea levelled matters on 10 mins. Fossa were now getting on top all over the field with Brian Walsh and Paddy Sheehan outstanding at centrefield. The first goal was a gem from Paddy Sheehan and it really settled the side, Tadgh O' Shea added a point from a free, Skellig/ Valentia hit back with points of their own and then Brian Walsh scored 1-1 to leave the score at half time Fossa 2-4 to Skellig/Valentia 0-6. Fossa started the 2nd half well with further points from Tadgh O' Shea and Paddy Sheehan and at this stage it was looking good for the visitors. Skellig/Valentia were now being urged on by a very vocal home crowd and only for some magnificient goalkeeping by Daniel Cronin, Fossa would have been in serious trouble, however he was beaten for a goal but only after he pulled off a point blank save. From here on the game was a classic, points from Tadgh O' Shea and Paddy Sheehan gave Fossa a 5pt lead, 2-2 without reply then gave the home side the lead. Fossa would not give up and a Paddy Sheehan goal gave them a 2pt lead near the end, Skellig/Valentia brought it down to a minimum going into injury time and then with virtually the last attack of the game they scored a goal which left them winners on a score of Skellig/Valentia 4-10, Fossa 3-11. It was heartbreaking stuff for Fossa with a county final place just eluding them but this talented bunch of players can be very proud off their efforts.

Fossa played Ardfert in the 4th round of the co-league Div 4A on Monday evening. This game was played in ideal conditions and it proved to be a very close encounter indeed.Fossa started well but with both defences playing well scores were hard to come by, however a Fergal O' Shea goal was the difference in this half and Fossa lead at half time 1-4 to 0-3. Ardfert upped their game in the 2nd half and a goal midway through the half brought them back into contention but Fossa produced a very good defencive performance to record a hard earned victory on a scoreline of 1-9 to 1-7.
