He loved music and was a drummer in the Carlow Pipers' Band in the early 1920s.

Michael married BRIGID CONNOLLY in 1926. After their marriage in 1926 Michael and Brigid set up a confectionery business in Browne Street. They later moved the business to 42, Tullow Street, Carlow. Michael died on 8/9/1961 and Brigid ceased trading in the mid 1960s. Brigid died on 19/4/1982.

"Superman", "Batman", "The Green Lantern", "Spiderman", "The Flash" are just a few of the titles that come to mind. We were always welcomed into the shop whenever we visited Carlow and it was truly an "Aladdin's Cave" for a child more used to reading "The Dandy" and "The Beano".

Bridie and Harry Meyer had one child, Elizabeth "Betty", who married T.J. Byrne. T.J. managed "The Royal Showband" during the great showband era in Ireland. Betty and T.J. have one son, also T.J., who worked for a time as a secondary school teacher in Newtownpark Avenue School in Blackrock, Co. Dublin.
