The Great Jubilee celebrations were launched in the Dublin Diocese on November 14^th 1998, the feastday of Laurence O 'Toole. By way of preparation for the Great Jubilee Year AD 2000, second level schools in the Archdiocese of Dublin were sent units of resource material which may be of assistance in highlightling the Christian significance of the Millennium. The first of these units outlined below, contains resouce material which may be of assistance in introducing students to the meaning of the Great Jubilee celebrations.

A second unit has now been produced and contains very detailed resources. A copy was sent to all post primary schools in the diocese. Unfortunately, it is not possible to produce all of it here. The prayer and movement exercise included on this website is from unit two. Test your skill and find the password.

and read the section
'How will Ireland Celebrate?'
Emphasise that we are about to celebrate the 2000^th year of the Lord.

The church prefers to use the term Jubilee rather than Millennium in connection with the celebration of the year 2000. Brainstorm students on the following questions:

What is a Jubilee?
What is a Silver or Golden Jubilee?
Have you ever known someone who celebrated a Jubilee? Who? Why?
How did they celebrate their Jubilee?
Complete the worksheet on the Biblical understanding of Jubilee.

Display the Jubilee Logo in a prominent postion and invite students to participate in a liturgical reflection, in a whole school or class setting.
Distribute copies of the Jubilee Logo labels to the students for them to colour and place on their Religion copy.
