Commentary

Reader 7:
The light which issues from the centre of the design stands for Christ, who is the light of the world. He is the "one Saviour, yesterday, today and forever". The brightness and the harmony of the colours remind us that joy an dpeace are an integral part of the jubilee celebration.

I am the light of the world Jesus said. Whover follows me will have the light of lifeand will never walk in darkness.

Commentary
Reader 3:
The five doves represent human life on the five continents. The circular form in which the doves are represented underlines the spirit of togetherness which inspires the Great Jubilee of the year 2000.

Reader 4:
A reading from the Gospel of Matthew (3:16-17)

As soon as Jesus was baptised, he came up out of the water. Then heaven was opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and alighting on him. Then a voice said from heaven, "This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased".

Commentary:
Reader 5:
The cross, in the same colours as the doves stands for Christ assuming our human condition.

Reader 6:
A reading from the gospel of John
(14:6-7)

I am the way, the truth and the life;no one goes to the Father except by me. Now that you have known me, you will know my Father also, and from now on you do know him and you have seen him.

Concluding Prayer

Let us pray together
Spirit of Jesus enligthen the eyes of our hearts.
Lead us to recognise you in each other and in our home.
Help us to appreciate the signs of hope in our parish community.
And make us sensitive to all that is in need of healing.

Spirit of Jesus poured out in flames of fire
upon your disciples at Pentecost, inflame our hearts.
We pray that we, your body in this place on earth,
may brighten each other's lives with the brightness of Christ,
as we face forward with new faith, new hope and new love.
