Power Connectors

These will normally be found on the side of the motherboard closes to the power supply. There are normally two connector blocks with four different coloured cables going into each block from the powered supply.

There will also be a number of other cables form the power supply which will be connected to the floppy disk drive, hard disk drive and CD-ROM drive. There should be one or two spare power connections in case you ever add another device e.g. a hard disk drive.

The P8-P9 connectors provide power from the power supply to the motherboard..

As a general rule, when connecting the power supply plugs into the motherboard, the 2 black wires on each plug should be next to each other in the centre of the connection block.

The common wattage values are 150, 175, 200, 230 and 250.

The power supply has a tangle of coloured wires arranged in groups of four. Each group of four wires runs to a specific device in the system to a floppy disk, a hard disk and the motherboard.
