Air Warrior B-25J Mitchell
Note 8.20.99: The following pages and tips were written for the Mac
Air Warrior version of Air Warrior. Most of the tips should transfer across
to more updated versions. I don't know if the films will work with AWIII.
Most likely they will not... they might work in AW4W.
The B-25J Mitchell is a neglected aircraft in Air Warrior. It is said
that anything the B-25 can do the A-26 Invader can do better. The B-25
has more gunner positions but that's not much use. The A-26 can carry more
bombs, is about 30KIAS faster on the flat, climbs better, dives better
and has more ammunition for the 8 x .50 Cal MGs then the B-25 does.
Yet the B-25 has two definite advantages over the Invader. The first
is that it is the second most durable aircraft in the set with a weight
of 6.2. The Invader is the third at a weight of 5.0. For comparison the
B-17 is weighted at 11.0 while the IJAAF GM4 "Betty" is weighted
at 1.0. The B-25 can take quite a beating above and beyond damage which
would lay an Invader out.
The second advantage is that the B-25 is easier to handle than the Invader
which may seem to be a surprise. It handles much easier at low speed. The
Invader has a tendency to go into a spin after stalling. The B-25 can hang
on it's nose at 80-90KIAS and keel over with a little Gs loaded. At 80-90KIAs
the Invader has already departed if any Gs are loaded. I have found that
then recovery is easier with it than in the Invader.
It's a big barge of an aircraft but it's possible to get air-to-air
kills in it if you are aggressive. Of course you won't get many, but you'll
remember the ones you do...
