AAR Mission 5 (Slim)
Fogy and I sweep down to row three then across. There were some very
low Me109s, but nothing to be a threat. After circling the target area
and getting the message that all the buffs had gone down I started to look
around for a clear path out of injun country, when I noticed a single red
icon in the middle of 3 green ones and dove down to try to save him. I
rolled on on a 109 chasing DT and had just closed to range when he went
up in smoke. I got hits on the NME, but he mad a quick roll and dove for
the deck. Seeing that it was just me in the middle of a lot of green planes
I dove to the north, leaving everything behind real quick. Hearing the
radio chatter from Front, I set out in his direction to help when the end
frame was called.
Slim
AAR Mission 5 (front)
I launched from B:42 with DuctTape, Bull, Slim, and Fogy. We climbed
out East through the bomb group and headed out to the rally points at 12,10
and 11,10.
We saw a few dots on the way out there... "ghosts" Bull called
them. Then we headed South, met and passed Flames, and began our sweep
South.
Right at the edge of the theatre at 12,6 we came upon two FW190s who
were much lower than our 37k. DuctTape and Bull went to down to fight them
and I stayed up as high cover.
The FW190s broke and ran East, dipping into 13,6 for a bit. The first
disappeared quickly (running East), the second turned and made a couple
of passes. By this time Bull and DuctTape were nearing the hard deck and
I was down to about 31k so Bull called on us to head back West.
As we turned the second FW190 came back into view and Bull chased him
off NorthEast again. He ran to the ack at C:49, it opened fire on Bull,
and he dove away as Bull ran West.
We continued our sweep West to 6,5. Bull and DuctTape climbed back up
to 36k and I weaved over them on the way.
The bomber group called out that a Bf109 had found them and Bull took
us North East back towards them. We arrived over the group as a FW190 was
attacking them at the rear. Bull and DuctTape turned South and I headed
down into the group to engage this FW190. I had to wrestle a bit with the
P-47D but I made it down not too fast and not too compressed. I swung up
over the FW190 to try and get into his six as he started another run. Bitter
swept in and nailed him with a good shot.
I zoomed back up to 31k as a Bf109 appeared to the high six of the bomber
group, I raced to try and catch up with Bull and DuctTape, who were chasing
a FW190 at the front of the bombers.
I passed DS and another P-38 by and called out the high Bf109 to our
rear. One of them turned into the fighter and I kept going. I sawed upwards
at another Bf109 who was crossing my high 12 but he was just out of range.
I came upon Bull dragging a Bf109 just about then. This was after he
had killed the FW190, but all our bombers were lost. This was very bad.
Bull reversed on the Bf109 and went over the top of me. I chased that
fighter South for a bit, gave him a long range blast, he dove and I turned
away. I joined Bull for a chase on a FW190 near the port. He was very fast
this guy... and easily got away back North. I came upon a couple of Allies
fighting some more Bf109s and we dove into help. I missed a shot on one
as he broke, Bull picked him up and I followed.
(Note: I see the first of the pair of FW190s we met at 12,6 about now
in the film. He is low and heading South down the path of the bombers...
who are all gone by this time. I think DuctTape spotted this FW190 and
then we heard nothing more from him... )
It got a bit confusing then. The Bf109 broke low and Bull broke high.
I thought Bull was the Bf109 and ran up his six. I fired at 800yds, getting
set for a line up, noticed the Green icon was suddenly Red, and stomped
rudder to skew the aim letting go of the trigger. I near fragged Bull.
We broke off. I headed North and ran into two more FW190s and a final
Bf109. Spitboy called "END LOG" as we passed head on, they kept
going South, and I augured. |
