The young Pioneer movement was founded in February 1995 to accommodate young people, who wish to abstain from alcohol until they are at least 18 years of age and who want to stay off drugs for life. They do this not just for themselves but for but for the greater glory of the Sacred Heart.

• WHY BECOME A YOUNG PIONEER?

1. You get to meet many young people in an alcohol–free environment.
2. You will never be charged with drunk driving.
3. You will never die of any overdose.
4. You will probably be better at your studies or work.

A young person’s body is unable to cope with alcohol until they are into their late teens. Alcohol consumption before these years can lead to a greater likelihood of Liver and Heart disease. All drugs when abused are lethal and can have fatal results — such as the death of Leah Betts, who died after taking the drug Ecstasy.

This is another very important reason to be a Young Pioneer. We must remember that Alcohol abuse is seen as one of the main causes of family break-up.
