History of Tobacco
In 1492 Christopher Columbus wanted to get from Spain to India. Usually people would sail around Africa, but he thought that by going West it would be a shortcut. He ended up in a few islands, which he though was India, so he called them the West Indies, even though he was in the East of the island. He met some native people with rolled up leaves in their mouth and they were smoking them.
In 1559 Jean Nicote brought tobacco to France. They called it snuff and they sniffed it. This is where we get the name Nicotine.
