Nr:Gex SoundStudio - Dublin Ireland

Nr:Gex was devised in the suburbs of Dublin City Ireland in March 1992. Each member of the project had a unique talent and taste when playing or creating Music.We armed ourselves with 2 Turntables and a Mic'ophone, a bag of records and (....sshhh) a digital sampler, then set up a mini Studio.

Soon after combining our talents we won best new dance act in Dublin & became one of the first acts to bring a new Underground breed of Live electronic dance music over to mainstream Clubs & Venues around Ireland. (aswell as to the airwaves and press around Europe).

Hot'N'happening bands creating a stir on the Global Dance Music scene now include the Irish dance outfit Nr:Gex Fronting Nr:Gex are computerwizz Caf and 3 of Dublins most promising DJ's, Warren Kiernan, Pat Hyland, and Michael Walsh who all share regular friday nights at the much improved ASYLUM dance club, These guys also packed in 2300 clubbers into the Olimpic Ballroom on Halloween night. Club wise the whole scene is getting better, old regulars like SIDES still packing them in. Like the fall of the Berlin wall, Irish Rock journal HOT PRESS has conceded that there is in fact a Dance Scene in Ireland. In this years critics awards, there is an award for the biggest contribution to Irish Dance Music,....We await the winner with baited breath. (1994)

They cant sing and they dont play real musical instruments but there packing in clubbers every weekend in New York and London simply by spinning records. Forget Oasis and The Spice Girls, These days the big sounds on the club scene come from international stars like Carl Cox, CJ Boland and Paul Oakenfold. They're the Disc Jockeys whose fingertips mix the magic on hi-tech decks. Dublin's already in on the act - and this weekend tickets are flying for a mix of Ireland's best, Nr:Gex and two top British acts - Transa and De-Niro. (1997 )

PA's hails from Dundalk, where you wouldn't expect to find one of the best dance clubs in the land. You wouldn't expect to find much of anythingin Dundalk, but there's PA's, competing with Dublins finest, as hundreds of clubbers from all over the country are finding out every weekend. I coached it up with fifteen friends last month to see Nr:Gex doing their live show, and ALL had a brilliant night. NR:GEX, if you haven't heard by now are Mick Walsh (resident dj) and Steve C. Together since 1992, when the line up also included ASYLUM resident's Warren K and P Hyland. NR:GEX evolved from entering a 'Rock-band' Competition in Dublin, for a laugh, They wrote 4 tracks on a computer the night before the final, A night well spent then?, 'Sure was'.... they knocked the judges and the 20 odd other "Rock" acts sideways. They walked (or to be more precise) Danced away with the competition.

-If it's not broke dont try to fix it.- These guys can play Live and have developed into one of the best live acts around. Steve pumping out Rythms while Mick scrathc'z the crowd into a frenzy. Each week Scott Braithwait and Jon the Dentist fly across the channel to play alongside the cream of our home grown Jock's. It may seem a long way to go - okay then - It is a long way to go - but the athmospheres great and the music is classA, and what's more ? well the pint is only Ł1.60 in the Pre Gig bar.

The Sultans of Ping F.C were relied upon to deliver us the killing joke, and theres a boatload of bands only waiting to take a shot at the same hoopla. Just take alook at Niall McGurks inedpendent offerings that Hope Promotions have been sponsoring, - Jam Jar Jail, Pet Lamb, Mexican Pets, and Wheel are all well worth a shout, but relax Nr:Gex are the dance floor fillers offering a way out.
