The N.S.S Camogie championship is run on a club system by the Mayo Camogie Board. In the 1989, 6 clubs each catering for approx. 3 Schools participated and it is envisaged that a similar number will again compete in 1990. Details from Marian Flannery, Kilcon, Belcarra.
MINI SEVENS.
The INTO/GAA mini sevens have captured the imagination of thousands of supporters who witnessed them at the half time intervals at the All Ireland Hurling and Football semi finals and finals in 1989. These Mini Sevens in boys football, girls football, Camogie and Hurling, are organised at Area and County levels intitially, before progression to provincial and All Ireland stages.
Mayo had 10 representatives at the All Ireland semi finals in 1989- 3 Hurling, 3-Camogie, 2-Boys Football, 2-Girls Football. Only Cork, Roscommon and Donegal had a larger representation at semi final stage.
At the All Ireland final stage, Mayo had 5 representatives, 2-Boys Football, 2-Girls Football, 1-Camogie. Cork being the only County with a larger representation here. Changes in the format of the mini 7's will make them far more attractive to smaller Schools in 1990, especially when amalgamations are allowed. Mayo will host the Provincial Hurling and Camogie Mini 7's in June 1990. |
