GALWAY for a SAFE ENVIRONMENT press your back button to return PRESS RELEASEMonday, February 21st , 2000 Galway for a Safe Environment (GSE) Residents for a Responsible Waste Management Policy Monday, February 21st , 2000 GSE Announce Major Public Meeting Monday Night, February 28th, 8.00 p.m. Corrib Great Southern, Galway Galway for a Safe Environment will hold a major public meeting on the hazards of waste incineration, in the Corrib Great Southern, Galway, on Monday night, February 28th, beginning at 8.00 pm. This is the first in a series of public activities that the group will hold, in the run-in to the deadline for public submissions to the Connacht Draft Waste Management Plan, on March 31st next. Details will be given at the meeting of the facts on the health effects associated with large-scale incineration of municipal waste, and representatives of the Wexford action group on incineration will also attend. Wexford Co. Council emphatically rejected incineration in January, and GSE are calling on Galway County and Borough Councillors to do the same. GSE is extending a special invitation to all elected representatives in Galway to come and hear the facts for themselves. The Galway Local Authorities announced last October that they had selected four sites for the controversial incinerator, three in Castlegar Parish, and one at Galway Docks. Galway for a Safe Environment are asking people to write to their local representatives opposing the proposed incinerator, and to make submissions to the plan.
