Gaels
Through To
With one
game remaining in the league stages of the Intermediate Championship Galtee
Gaels are through to the county semi final thanks to victories over Cappamore
and South Liberties in the last week.
It was
scorching hot in Hospital at two in the afternoon when Gaels took on Cappamore
in round three of the intermediate championship on Sunday week last. The heat
may have had an effect on their opening fifteen minutes as it was dominated by
Cappamore who lead 0-3 to 0-1 after the first quarter but Gaels defence and
midfield eventually gained control and turned the pressure back on their
opponents. Three points with only one reply from their opponents gave a half
time sore of 0-4 points each.
A Gaels
point almost straight from the throw in was a marker for their domination of the
next quarter of the game. 1-03 was quickly added to the opener with only a
single reply from Cappamore, the goal coming from Conor Moriarty. Cappamore
however were not beaten and a goal and a point put them back within two points
and they should have closed the gap further but for some poor shooting. Gaels
were not going to let this game slip though and two late points finally put the
result beyond doubt.
Galtee
Gaels 2-14 South Liberties 0-4
Gales
had an easier than expected passage through to the county semi final on Friday
evening when they comprehensively defeated South Liberties at Kilfinane. Gales
got the ideal start with a goal and a point inside the opening five minutes and
through the first half Liberties never really threatened attack wise. Slowly
Gales continued to build their lead and lead at half time by 1-05 to 0-1. Liberties
managed a few points on the beginning of the second half but Derek Gallahue
struck for his second goal of the game and from there on it was Gales all the
way until the final whistle.
