Gaels
Through To
Galtee
Gaels have reached the
Croom
started the better and after putting the Gaels defence under some early pressure
got the opening two points. Conor Moriarty opened the scoring for Gales after a
good run along the endline and Andrew Breedy equalised soon after with a lofted
effort which eventually dropped over. Croom again took the lead but an excellent
effort from Derek Gallaghue and an even better point by Tommy Noonan from out by
the sideline finished the scoring for the first half with the hardworking Gaels
leading 0-4 to 0-3.
A Croom
free levelled scores almost immediately after half time and they soon took the
lead with another pointed free. It was now that Gales began to dominate
proceedings but despite putting the Croom defence under a lot of pressure all
Gales had to show was a single point from Tommy Noonan and five wides. This had
been Gaels chance to put Croom away but Croom availed of their reprieve and hit
five unanswered points, two from play and three frees, in the last ten minutes
of the game with only a single reply from Derek Gallahue.
Gales will be happy enough with their defensive performance, Paul
Moriarty in particular standing out, but shooting, which so far this year had
been fairly reliable, proved to be below par on the night. With an identical
record of four wins and one loss Galtee Gaels and Croom finished level on points
but Gaels won the group with a superior scoring difference. Croom face section B
winners Newcastlewest and Galtee Gales take on Galbally in the semi finals.
