Castletownshend, Union Hall, Leap and Glandore

Much of the coastline from Castletownshend to Glandore is inaccessible. There is a muddy estuary at Rineen, and a large, quiet harbour next to Glandore, Union Hall, which becomes shallow and muddy as it meets its end in Leap.

Glandore Harbour is quite a good place for fishing, with the usual variety available. Bass and flatfish can be caught at various points off the side of the road from Glandore to the bridge, including directly under the bridge. Dogfish, and some wrasse and pollack can also be caught here. Mullet also frequent much of the shallower areas.

Castletownshend is not a great place for shore fishing, with mullet being the only consistent species. Flounder can be caught farther in the harbour, with dogfish off the rocks. If you can find a spot west of the village, it is likely to be rewarding. The ground is very rough in most places under the cliffs towards Toe Head. An obvious place to fish is in the deep water behind Horse Island, where dogfish, bull huss, pollack, mackerel, coalfish, conger, and possibly ray and flatfish in the sandier areas can be caught. Just to the east, Battery point is another good spot, with a smaller range of species being caught, mainly pollack, flounder and dogfish.

Tragumna and Tralispeen are two small beaches with rocks at either side. In the deeper water from the rocks, pollack can be caught sometimes, with mackerel present in late summer. Flatfish are possible, with a chance of bass, especially in Tralispeen.

All of these villages are fairly small, with the only shop selling fishing tackle in Union Hall. There is very little to be bought here, just a few lures and cheap rods for tourists. Lugworm can be dug in a few places, especially Rineen, Castletownshend, and just beside Union Hall.
