Timoleague, Courtmacsherry and Kinsale

These are some of the best known names in Irish sea angling. Kinsale, the farthest east is a well known center for deep sea angling. Its shore angling can also be excellent, with plenty of places to fish. Garretstown Strand is a very good surf beach, with great fishing for bass and flatfish, and the possibility of conger, ray, dogfish and sea trout. There is good fishing on the New Bridge for flounder, dogfish, codling, bass, pollack, and coalfish, with whiting in winter. The Old Bridge provides excellent bass fishing, as well as some flatfish. Farther out the harbour, you can also catch ray, plaice, dabs, eels, and bull huss. The Old Head of Kinsale offers good rock fishing for wrasse, dogfish, conger, pollack and coalfish.

Courtmacsherry is another big name in deep sea angling, where there is more good shore angling. There is a good big estuary here, and some nice beaches, all of which provide bass and flounder. There is excellent bass, flounder and mullet fishing right up into Timoleague. With so much muddy estuary, lugworm digging is no problem, and crabs are plentiful also. This is probably the one area of West Cork that gets a lot of shore angling. Because of this, there are sea angling centers in Kinsale and Courtmacsherry, where you can buy your tackle.
