History
Coffeys Pharmacy and Opticians, Kilkelly was established in 1949 by Patrick Gerrard Coffey M.P.S.I. in its current location. He qualified as a Pharmacist and Dispensing Optician and worked in Dublin until he returned to Kilkelly. Modifications were carried out in 1972 to extend the premises to accommodate the Medical card scheme, which started that year. Mr Coffey still works in the business both as a Pharmacist and Dispensing Optician.

Coffey's Pharmacy

His son Gerard who took over in 1994 now runs the Pharmacy. He doubled the premises size and refitted in 1995 improving facilities and providing a new area for eye testing and spectacle frame fitting.

Dr Michele Coffey Ophthalmologist holds regular sessions treating all eye complains from simple testing to eye acute and chronic eye disease management. Together with Mr Coffey they provided a full service under the Medical Card, Pay related Social Insurance, Garda and ESB and other Private schemes. Miss Anne Hamilton now works with Coffey's and is currently studying in Cambridge, England to obtain an optical qualification.

Coffeys have recently added a regular Chiropody service with Mrs Linda Ulhemann treating acute and chronic foot complaints.

Finally Miss Mary Mc Intyre has just joined the company as a pharmacy and sales assistant and is undertaking the National Pharmaceutical Association MCA course, which will qualify her to help customers with medical complaints commonly, presented in Pharmacies. She is also attending a beauty course, which will enable her to advise more fully on the appropriate choice of cosmetics.
