Glen Celtic B kick started their season with an impressive away win against Ballymoe on Saturday evening. Niall Gannon on his debut in senior soccer scored after 20 minutes following a Padraic Geraghty pass. Celtic continued to create chances but at half time the score remained 1-0. Ballymoe piled on the pressure at the beginning of the second half but Stan Collins in goal made a couple of telling saves which prevented an equaliser. Then Celtic scored a second when Geraghty and Gannon combined again with Gannon finishing the move. A third followed after good work by Fintan O’Neill saw him send over a telling cross which was finished well by Owen McStay. Celtic wrapped up the points when Declan McCallion was fouled in the area. From the resultant penalty McCallion coolly slotted home to finish the scoring. A good win for Celtic and a good squad on the day.

Glen Celtic B lost to Loughglynn on Saturday evening. Celtic started brightly and were rewarded for some excellent work when Simon Stachurski gave them a deserved lead. Loughglynn fought back to equalise but it was Celtic who were looking the more dangerous. In the second half Loughglynn looked the most dangerous and some good saves by Niall Larkin kept Celtic in the game. However Celtic conceded two goals in a matter of minutes to put Loughglynn in the driving seat. Celtic piled on the pressure and created a number of chances but couldn’t find the net. Then with five minutes remaining the ball fell to Darren O’Regan who fired home from close range to give Celtic a chance. Despite constant Celtic pressure for the remainder of the game the equaliser never materialised and despite the performance Celtic lost out on the points.

Cam though did manage to finish the opportunities they were given and at half time led 2-0 after two goals in quick succession just before half time. In the second half however Celtic were a different team and Niall Gannon scored after a minute to get them back into the game. Then Fintan O’Neill scored one of the best goals of the season when he chipped the keeper from near the halfway line to put Celtic level. Continued pressure by Celtic resulted in a third when Owen McStay followed up a Niall Gannon free kick to slot home. In the last minute Gannon scored his second to make the game safe for Celtic.

On a night not especially good for soccer Celtic lost ground in the League with a below par performance. Playing into a gale force wind in the first half Celtic started brightly but a defensive lapse allowed Ericssons to take the lead. More misery came soon after when Ericssons doubled their advantage. Celtic however came back strongly and pulled a goal back before half time with Owen McStay finishing well. Celtic started the second half the brighter and equalised when John Keaveney hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner. It now looked like there would be only one winner with Celtic dominating. The Ericsson goalkeeper pulled off three magnificent saves to prevent Celtic going ahead.Celtic then conceded a sloppy third goal and were forced to push everything into attack leaving themselves open to the counter attack where Ericssons proved decisive with two further goals putting the game past Celtic. In fairness Celtic did score twice in quick succession to give themselves hope but it wasnt enough.
