Glenlosh Valley Country Cottages
Glenlosh Valley is a privately owned
secluded 1700 hectare estate, serviced by its own road ensuring each cottage has ample
privacy. Our water is completely safe as it comes straight from underground springs high
up in the mountains.
The valley is ideal for the
following activities:
Hillwalking - The famous Maamturks
Challenge is an annual event that walks the length of the Maamturks in one go. It is 23.4
Km long and climbs 2336 M. It is the granddad of Irish marathon hill walking. Other
walking ranges are Diamond Hill in the Connemara National Park, Glen Coaghan Horseshoe,
Twelve Bens (also called Twelve Pins), Mweelrea, Sheefries, Maumtrasna, Partry are all
adjacent to our valley.
Photography - Because the valley has no public roads, it is a natural
haven for wildlife and a perfect opportunity for the photographer who can roam unhindered
across the mountain bogs and valleys.
Working Farm - Glenlosh has a working farm that is a delight for children
who can see horses, ponies, donkeys, geese, ducks, cockerels, chickens, goats, lambs,
sheep, cats and dogs, all living in harmony.
Historical exploration - The Mamean (pass of the birds) ancient
pilgrimage route that is still used today. The Maumturk (Pass of the Boar), an ancient
foot pass between the Inagh & Glenlosh Valleys. In Glenlosh Valley itself, find the
cave used by IRA leader Ernie O'Malley, a medical student, to direct his operations
against the British Black & Tan and Auxiliary forces during the Irish War of
Independence (1920). Explore ancient Stone Circles from pre-historic times that are
visible on the valley floor near Gowlaun Cottage.
Family holidays - Our self-catering cottages provide comfortable
accommodation suitable for the annual family vacation. Enjoy the comfort of an evening
spent sitting around a turf fire, a very Irish tradition. Allow children to run free and
safe to explore the countryside. The rental period is typically from Saturday to Saturday,
but can be tailored as required.
Local region exploration - Lough Corrib and Lough Mask are renowned for
their salmon fishing with boat hire and boat trips available on the loughs. Killary fiord,
Kylemore Abbey and fine beaches are 30 minutes away. Horse riding and golf are available
locally. Connemara is truly the heart of West of Ireland Tourism. From our Connemara
valley you have access to such delights as the towns of Westport, Clifden, Leenane, Cong,
Ballinrobe & Oughterard. Galway City and Inisbofin & Aran Islands are about an
hour away.
You may stay here in one of these seven
different and beautiful cottages.
