Meaning "The Town of Bushes".
This is a poem
composed and recited by Mick Owen. He was from Cultiafadda
and the poem was recited in the early fifties:
It's all about a few young
fellows,
who last summer did agree,
they said they would cut a bank of turf
and have a jolly spree.
The turf was cut and with out delay
and then it was changed out
and sold to Mr. Rafferty
for 50 gallons of stout,
Dan Connelly left the trailer to haul the turf away,
he could not come himself for he had to cross the sea,
he travelled all through out Europe
and across to Montreal
and from there to Loughpark
and missed the Bushtown ball,
Tom Collins and Mick Rattigan was the best of the blooming lot.
They fought for another musician and to tell you who they got,
he was a chap from Dublin town who they met in Williamstown
he could play any instrument or act the clown,
Pete Keaveny was the bass I'm sure you all agree
he had no other lass in view but charming Bridie Mee,
Mick Collins was there, he put on his coat and scarf
and left his Eileen safe at home in the village of Ballinastack
