A local born republican who became famous in the Listowel mutiny of 1920, when he refused to serve in the proposed new force of combined Black and Tans and Royal Irish Constabulary. Born in Knockauns in 1889, he served as secretary to Countess Markievitz in the Department of Labour in the Dáil. His memorial is situated on the Ballymoe Road at the Glenamaddy crossroads.
