                  Glenamaddy National School

The original Glenamaddy National School was built where the Garage of Kelly's Crash Repairs is located today on the edge of the town on the Ballymoe road. This original school was built in 1900 and consisted of a boys school and a girls school. In the 50's the headmaster was a Mr. Patrick Crosby.

In 1962 a new school was built and opened on at its current location on the Kilkerrin Road. Mr. Crosby stayed on as headmaster and the other teachers were: Mrs. Crosby (Headmasters Wife), Ms. Tray and Ms Glynn.

Throughout the years there were a few changes in the staff at the school and in 1973 Mr. Peadar Burke took the post of school principal, a position he would fill until 1985 when he was replaced by a new principal, Mr. John Quinn who still holds this position. As the years passed pupil numbers increased and more staff joined the school and prefabricated classrooms were built to cater for the extra numbers.

In September 1994, due to the increase in numbers a new extension consisting of 3 new classrooms and a refurbishment of the existing 4 -to turn them into two larger ones- and the installation of new cloakrooms began. The project would cost £160,000 pounds and the building contractor picked for the job was Frank Grehan from Ballyhard. The construction lasted a whole year and during this time the school was moved to a building in Ballyhard which had been a hardware store.

On the 9th of January 1996 the new rejuvenated school was opened by the then minister for Tourism and Trade, Enda Kenny. In 1997 the school was appointed a remedial teacher for the three parishes in the school.Mrs. Mary Fitzpatrick has recently begun coming to the school to teach music. In Jan 2000 the Dept. of Education sanctioned a resource teaching post for 3 schools in the area-Creggs, Glinsk and Glenamaddy. Mrs. Bríd Morgan, on the teaching staff since 1991, accepted this position and will soon be replaced on the staff by Ms. Eileen Connolly.

At present the school has 102 pupils-47 boys and 55 girls.

Recent achievements include winning the 11 a side football County Final, Securing First place in the local credit union quiz and 3rd place out of 26 in the Garda Quiz in Tuam.

The teachers of the school are Mr. John Quinn, Mrs. Treasa Timothy, and Mrs. Josie Kelly (sorry for the omission before!).

The current board of management include:    Fr.Michael Goaley P.P., Mr.John Quinn, Mrs.Mary Fahy, Mr.Gerry Halain, Mr.Kevin Costello, Mrs.Patricia Keady, Mr.Gerry Hynes and Mrs.Treasa Timothy.
