Glenamaddy
Gleann na Madadh
Gleann coming from the Irish word for valley and Madagh coming from the Irish word for a dog (madra). Therefore meaning "The Valley of the Dogs".
Another possible meaning is that it stands for "Gleann na Maighe Duibhe" meaning "Valley of the Black Plain". This is because when the Turlough dries up in the summer it leaves a black coloured plain"
It gets its name from Glenamaddy's Turlough which is shaped like a dog.
