The Stedfast Band
50th Anniversary
The 50th Year of the Band's formation is currently being celebrated.
During this celebration year the band will (amongst other engagements) hold a special Thanksgiving Service, a Concert and a Dinner. Dates for these can be found by going to the Engagements page.
Thanksgiving Service
A Service of Thanksgiving was held on Sunday 26th February 2001 in Delgany Parish church. Delgany is a small village to the south of Dublin and it was here that the Band played its first engagement in 1952.
The service was conducted by Delgany Rector, Rev. Nigel Waugh and the address was given by the Rev. George Dyke, a former member of the band. Many former members and friends of the band supported the service.
Music played consisted of pieces originally played at the first band Concert (Rinaldo and Fame & Glory)and a meaningful rendition of Rimmer's Eventide. Most of the hymns played were originally arranged by a former conductor of the band, Stanley Dyke, who attended the service as well as another former conductor, Victor Malirsh.
After the service tea was served by the ladies of Delgany parish and a local hostelry was visited on the way home (for road directions, of course !!)
It was a memorable start to the 50th Year
