Welcome to Galway Naturalists' Field Club website.

Aims:
Organised field excursions to share interests in, and learn about, natural history, and to increase identification skills. All aspects of natural history may be covered, such as zoology, botany, ecology and geology. Regular fieldtrips will take place and through these the GNFC aims to promote an interest in natural history amongst the general public, and to educate those interested. GNFC outings can be used to collect and collate data on local flora and fauna, which may be of use in future surveys and assessments. As its activities cover a broad field, the GNFC will also serve to bring together individuals from all aspects of natural history, and promote open discourse between different groups.

Who is it aimed at?
Both professionals and enthusiastic amateurs, all of whom have an interest in natural history. Emphasis depends on the expertise and interests of all involved, and all disciplines are welcome to contribute. Membership of the GNFC is open to all ages, provided the annual membership fee is paid to cover costs of insurance. Potential members may accompany the GNFC on outings, but must become full members after two trips.

Where?
Activities are usually in the Galway and Clare region, but occasionally trips further afield take place.

What do you need to bring to an excursion?
Wellies or other suitable footwear and waterproof clothing. Any field ID guides one may have and most importantly of all, interest and enthusiasm! Packed lunch is also often required. (Details will always be circulated prior to an outing.)
