Outings 2005:
- Saturday 22nd January
Tawin, Ahapouleen and Ballinacourty. Jane Gilleran will show us Common Seals at Tawin
and we will look at birds in the Ballinacourty area too. Meet Archway, NUI Galway Quad,
10:00AM.
- Saturday 19th February Trip to Portumna Forest Park to see Red Squirrels. Leader: Alan Poole. Meet Archway, NUI Galway Quad, 10:00AM.
- Saturday 19th March Archaeology trip to study tower houses at Pallas Castle. Leader: Rory Sherlock. Meet Archway, NUI Galway Quad, 10:00AM.
- 16th April Trip to Lough Mask ( maybe also the woods at Cong, if there is time).
- Wednesday April 27th Evening trip to Gentian Hill, Galway City to see Spring Gentians, meet 6:30PM at the Spinnaker pub.
- 11th May Evening trip to Garryland Wood, near Gort. Meet Archway, NUI Galway Quad, 18:15.
- June Bank Holiday weekend, 4th-6th (staying in hostel evenings of 3rd, 4th and 5th) Trip to Killarney, Co. Kerry, for National Park, Skelligs etc.
- Wednesday 8th June Evening trip to the limestoine grassland at Ardrahan.
- 18th June Burren trip, for plants, butterflies and moths, possibly also bats in the evening (details to be confirmed).
- 25th June BSBI (Botanical Society of the British Isles) trip to Glennamaddy, NE Galway. This trip will examine the flora of Glennamaddy turlough. Meet at the crossroads at Glennamaddy (M630620) at 10:30AM. Leader Dr. Cilian Roden (croden@iol.ie).
- Saturday 16th July Inchagoill island in upper Lough Corrib. Meet at NUI Galway archway at 10AM. The ferry departs from Oughterard at 11.00AM. The boat trip is approximately 45 minutes. We hope to have about 4 hours on the island and should be back in Galway at 5.30pm.
- Saturday 20th August St. John's Wood, Co. Roscommon (on shores of Lough Ree). Overnight camping for those who wish to.
- Sunday 18th September Finavarra reef, Co. Clare. To coincide with a low spring tide. Looking at marine invertebrates. Meet at the Archway, NUI Galway Quad, 9.30 A.M.
- Sunday 23rd October Deer rut Portumna Forest Park. Meet at the Archway, NUI Galway Quad, 10.30 A.M.
- Thursday 27th October Talk, 'Hurricane Katrina and Louisiana's Wetlands' by Eugenie Regan, followed by GNFC AGM, Anno Santo Hotel, Salthill, 8 P.M.
- Sunday 27th November Visit to the Irish Seed Savers Association (ISSA) at Scarrif, Co. Clare, followed by visit to woods at Tuamgreaney to see the Brian Boru oak. Meet at the Archway, NUI Galway Quad, 10.30 A.M.
- Thursday 9th December Mulled wine and a showing of 'Life in the Freezer' at a member's house. For details contact Pádraig on 091 770014.
Further details of each of the above outings including meeting times
and locations will be circulated by email in the week prior to each
outing.
- Please bring sturdy boots (or wellies if required), rain gear and a packed lunch.
- Feel free to forward the schedule to interested
parties. Non-members are welcome to attend, but are encouraged to become
paid members after a few outings for insurance purposes.
- On outings where numbers are limited preference will be given to members of GNFC.
