Outings 2006:
- Saturday 28th January Wintering waterfowl. Meet Archway, NUI Galway Quad, midday, to go to Rahasane Turlough. We will be at Oranmore Castle, Oranmore Bay, 4PM.
- Saturday 11th February Archaeology in the Cong area. Leader: Will Anderson. Meet Archway, NUI Galway Quad, 10:00AM.
- Saturday 18th March Trip to Omey Island, Connemara. Meet at the NUI Galway Quad at 10:00AM.
- Sunday 9th April Geology trip to Connemara with Dr. Martin Feely of NUI Galway. Details to be confirmed.
- Saturday 22nd April Boora Bog and the Abbeyleix woodlands. Details to be confirmed.
- Saturday 13th May Battlefield archaeology trip to the site of the battle of Aughrim (1691) led by Natasha Ferguson. Meet at the NUI Galway Quad at 11:00AM.
- Saturday 20th May trip to Inishmurray, Co. Sligo. Leaving galway 8AM at the latest. Option to camp overnight near Knocknarea.
- Friday 2nd - Monday 4th June trip to Wexford to camp in the Gorey area. Visits to saltees islands, Mount Leinster in the Blackstairs mountains and maybe Lady's Island Lake. Leaving from Galway 4PM on Friday afternoon.
- Saturday 8th July Dawn bat swarm at Aughnanure Castle near Oughterard. Meet at Aughnanure Castle car park at 4AM.
- Saturday 15th July Evening trip to look at river life (including Freshwater Pearl Mussel) in the Owenriff River, Oughterard. Meet at Archway at 7PM.
- Sunday 6th August GNFC will be joining in with the IWDG's national whale watch at Black Head, Co. Clare. Leader Joanne O'Brien. Meet at the Archway at 12:00 for car pooling. Whale watch from 14:00 to 17:00.
- Sunday 22nd October GNFC will be looking at mushrooms and other fungi in the woods around Moycullen. Leader Pádraig Keirns. Meet at the Archway at 11:00 for car pooling.
- Friday 8th December GNFC talk "The Relocation of Red Squirrels to Derryclare Wood in Connemara" by Alan Poole. The talk will be followed by a short AGM. Anno Santo Hotel, Salthill, Galway at 20:00 (8PM).
Further details of each of the above outings including meeting times
and locations will be circulated by email in the week prior to each
outing.
- Please bring sturdy boots (or wellies if required), rain gear and a packed lunch.
- Feel free to forward the schedule to interested
parties. Non-members are welcome to attend, but are encouraged to become
paid members after a few outings for insurance purposes.
- On outings where numbers are limited preference will be given to members of GNFC.
