Bananas have an exciting
nutritional story. They are a good source of fiber, vitamin C, and potassium. One banana
has 16% of the fiber, 15% of
the vitamin C, and 11% of the potassium we need every day for
good health! Check out the nutrition label to gather all the facts. We should all eat 5 pieces of fruit or vegetables a day. Call it your 5 a day plan and make sure to include in this plan a banana from time to time. Like other fruits and vegetables, bananas are low in calories and contain no fat, cholesterol, or sodium. Plus, they provide us with plenty of energy to help us power skate all day. Way to go bananas! |
Potassium is a
mineral that is important for controlling your body's fluid balance. Potassium is also
needed for muscles to contract, transmission of nerve impulses, and the proper functioning
of your body's heart and kidneys. Generally, fruits and vegetables are sources of potassium. Bananas, broccoli, celery, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and kiwi are good sources of potassium. Potatoes (with the skin) are high in potassium. Other food sources of potassium include milk, whole grains, dried beans, and meats. Did you know our bodies can absorb about 90% of the potassium we eat? |
