Mazzacane comes to F1 as a bit of an unknown quantity.
The twenty-four year old arrives in F1 via Karting, F3, F3000 and Sports Cars, however he has largely failed to shine in any of the disciplines.
Over the years Giancarlo (Minardi) has proved to be something of a talent spotter - Giancarlo Fisichella and Jarno Trulli being two of his old boys - and maybe the wily Italian knows something that we don't.
However it would appear that with an uncompetitive engine and very few lira in the bank, Minardi couldn't afford to be overly choosy.
