What makes a fast PC.

The secret to a fast PC means a having a well balanced system. Having a fast Processor does not mean that you'r PC will perform faster.
So what do you need for a fast PC.

1. A hard drive with at least UDMA 66. ( Most of the new hard drives have this) For Video editing go for UDMA 100 or SCSI.

2. A Motherboard that supports UDMA 66 or 100 UDMA

3. A graphics card with at least 8mb of ram ( If its for playing the latest 3D games then go for at least 16mb graphics card)

4. From 64 to 128mb of ram

5. A Processor anything from 500mhz upwards AMD or Pentium III.

Having all of the above will give you a decent PC. But lacking any of the above Performance will suffer, no matter how fast the processor is.

There are also a few tweaks that you can do in windows to speed up you'r PC.

Having too many programs runing in the background will also slow you'r PC down.
Usually programs that are runing in the background show an icon in the right hand side of the taskbar.

You should also check your start up folder, and delete any program that you do not want there.(Remember that deleting programs from the startup folder dose not delete the program itself, it just stops it loading at startup)

Programs that run in the background usually show an icon here

Another way to check to see what programs are runing in the background is, after a fresh restart press CTRL, ALT and DEL.
The only programs that you must have here is Explorer, Systray and your Virus Scanner if you have it set to monitor your system

The only programs that you must have here is Explorer & Systray

To disable these programs that run in the background.

1. Type msconfig in the run menu

2. Then on the System Configuration Utility menu that opens up, click the Startup tab.

Untick any program that you do not want to run in the background, except for "system tray".
"But take note in case you want to undo."

Speed up your menus.
You can speed up you'r menus by unticking all the boxes in the effects screen in Display Properties.( The effects will take palce the next time that you restart.)

To get to Display Properties menu.

Right click on an unoccupied area of the desktop and sellect Properties.

I also helps to run Scan Disk, Disk Defragmenter & Disk Cleanup regularly.

So with a few simple tweaks and a bit of spring cleaning. You might not even have to buy a new PC after all.
"Any changes that you make to your PC you do at your own risk."
