My Mother and father Jo and Rita Higgins,
taken in Burnage Manchester shortly before their death.
They were both born on the green,
married from there and I was born there.
We lived for a fair time in the middle slated hall.
The Witness at their wedding in 1932 were,
William Devitt ( Billy ) and Annie Lloyd.
This was awarded to First Communicans in 1939.
It was a wonderful gift. I can't
decipher the name of the Priest.
However, I think it reads Rev. P. Hanlon
I well remember walking along Saint Patrick's street to the boy's school. St. Patrick's Hall was near the school. We attended concerts there and I was one of the junior boxers who took part in a "night of boxing" held at the Hall in about 1942 I can't remember who I fought but I lost. After the boxing finished we had a meal at the Princess Hotel. What a wonderful finish to a great night. Looking up Bridge Street from The Green. Bridge Street looking from Lawn to Egg/Barber shops The little place with 2 windows showing on the left was the barbers shop and the larger building with 4 upper windows showing was the egg shop
The Barracks The Barracks from Boyle River. Grandfather James McGlynn
