This is one of the oldest pictures we have. There used to be an R.I.C (Royal Irish Constabulary) barracks on The Heath and the men in uniform are members of that force. In 1922, the R.I.C was replaced by the Civic Guard which later became known as An
Garda Síochána. This is Irish for 'Guardians of the Peace'. Today, there are almost 11,000 Gardaí in about 700 stations throughout Ireland. The gentleman with the white beard is George Curran and the one with the top hat is John Tynan. Their descendants are still living on The Heath.
The ancient castle in Shaen was demolished by Cromwell's colonels Hewson and Reynolds in 1650. This artist's impression was done by someone called M. Hooper in 1793.
This is an aerial view of Fitzpatrick's farmhouse about 40 years ago.
