Celypha lacunana - a micromoth

Celypha lacunana is a polyphage - the larvae feed on a variety of plants  - and makes a protective 'hide' by spinning leaves together in May. The 'spinning' below is on Meadowsweet - Filipendula ulmaria.

As is typical with micromoths, the larva shoots backwards towards the rear of its shelter if it is disturbed. This one shot right out onto my hand.

The adult can be disturbed from vegetation from June onwards.
