High Heath.

Rain for much of the day.

The Vapourer moth is unusual in that the female is flightless. I found a larva two weeks ago and it pupated within hours. Today she hatched and this is her hanging on the remnants of the cocoon. No males were seen in 20 minutes.

This shot shows a parasitic fungus - Spinellus fusiger - on its host - a Mycena. The black dots are the heads of the Spinellus.

This Tricholompsis rutilans was perched handily on a stump. Specimen about 8 cm. across.

There are still a few seedheads of the Perennial Sowthistle - Sonchus arvensis. This is the soft-leaved, red-stemmed variant that I find in high boggy areas.
