High Heath.

Occasional rain showers.

I never cease to be amazed at the resilience of some of our plants. Angelica normally grows to about 150 cm. or larger. This tiny specimen growing in rocks was just 20 cm. tall. Everything is in miniature, including the flowers.

Another shot of the Tree Wasp - Dolichovespula sylvestris. I think I have now overcome my phobia of these beasts.

Mesembrina meridiana is one of the more distinctive flies with its bright orange wing-roots.

Most of the Eyebright has been white this year, but there were a couple of darker ones in the green strip in the middle of the path. The middle of the path often has different flowers from the verges on either side: worth remembering if you're exploring.

A tiny member of the Dolichopodidae, or thick-headed flies. About 5 mm. long.

Two new species for the Species Index: Common Marbled Carpet - Chlorocysta truncata (left) and Dark Marbled Carpet - Chlorocysta citrata citrata (right).

The Dark Marbled Carpet is actually from last year. I didn't use the picture at the time.

The most obvious difference is the shape of the rearmost 'spike' of the dark band on the front wing.

Four shots of an Elephant Hawk Moth larva showing off its false 'eye' patches. I've always had these down as Rosebay Willowherb eaters, but this was on Broad-leaved Willowherb.

The last shot shows the real eyes (purple) in the centre of the inflated section.
