Another flying visit to Drumboe ( I was working nearby this week).

 

A bright and chilly day.

This has been a very productive year for berries. The Holly trees are red with them.

    

 

And while I was looking at the Holly, I found mines of Phytomyza ilicis - the only leaf-miner on Holly.

 

The birds have taken their fill of the Elderberries.

 

A late head of Hogweed. Not unusual this year: I see it on most verges at the moment.

 

This is the enormous (20 cm) leaf of Red Oak. Whilst it's a very attractive leaf, it has no mines, fungi or galls on it: ample evidence that alien species are useless as hosts for our native insects.
