Heath on approach to deforested area.

Dull and wet.

Rhytidiadelphis squarrosus (LHS) is a common pleurocarpous moss on acid soil, so I expected to find it here. What I didn't expect to find in the same location was Rhytidiadelphis triquetrus (RHS), which likes lime. Maybe the gravel used to make the road is lime-based.

And here's a close-up of the shoot tips.

 R. squarrosus (L) and R. triquetrus (R, borrowed from 23rd.)

Overall, R. triquetrus is a much more robust plant.

I just realised it's the moss I found all over the place at Lough Erne. That's on lime.
