Disused quarry.

3 x Green-veined White. 1 x Peacock.

Bright and warm.

Most of today's images feature this large and attractive Chironomid - Cricotopus sylvestris. Previously I've only seen the female, but today every specimen - and there were thousands - was male. Length about 12mm.

With that number of targets, the predators were having a field day. Scathophagus (left) and spider (right).

As far as I can work out, the Alder Fly has nothing whatsoever to do with the Alder tree.

This Mayfly - a Baetid - was perched unharmed on a spider's web.

I spotted Thyme-leaved Speedwell last week, but that was in the pouring rain.

A few Smooth Newts were still hiding under stones.

And I found this cluster of Beetle eggs under one of the stones.

A different Chironimid, about 6 mm long.
